Work on Section Pages (September 2nd, 2005) Issue III Uploaded (August 18th, 2005) Issue III is Out! (June 7th, 2005)
Unfortunately,
the school year's over, so I won't be able to update the site over the
summer (no access to the server over the summer). Some of the main
articles are up here, but most of the Issue III articles will have to
wait until after the summer to be uploaded. The entire newspaper
layouts, however, in both Microsoft Publisher and Adobe PDF formats,
can be found on our Downloads page.

For many Juniors and Seniors at Westmoor, this
school year has been the year of the AP, a nonstop rush of drills,
flash cards, and night-before cramming. As Nathan Yan writes, however,
in this rampant focus to "pass the AP", students, teachers, parents,
the administration, and the education system have lost sight of their
original aim, to educate students, instead placing students into a
heavily structured, test-training environment.
Chronicle Piece: A version of this article was
actually republished in the June 28, 2005 edition of the San Francisco
Chronicle. Check it our here.
In our Issue III debate, two writers, Staff Writer Marco Paz and
Editor-in-Chief Nathan Yan, square off in the controversy concerning
the rampant use of steroids in proffesional sports. What are its
effects on society, do the benefits justify the drawbacks? And
ultimately, what should be done with regard to steroid policy? From
ethical, economical, competitive, and pragmatic standpoints, both
writers analyze the steroid issue and come up with some suprising
viewpoints.
When it comes to computers,
building your own is the only way to go. Store-bought computer have a
limited selection of components to choose from, are hard to configure
due to non-standard specs (especially with motherboards, cases, and
power supplies, and cost WAY more than the market
value, and are something that no self-respecting geek would allow into
their home. In the Some Assembly Required series,
we'll be detailing the ins-and-outs of choosing the components for your
own computer, analyzing the products out there, explaining all of the
specs and terms, and making recommendations on what to get for your
price and performance needs. We begin with the most important component
of the computer: The CPU
This past year, thirteen Westmoor students had the opportunity to go
participate in the Sojourn to the Past project, a trip for high school
students from around the United States down to the South, and explore
the heart of America's Civil Rights movement. Two students offer
interesting - and contrasting - perspectives on the trip and their own
personal experiences. | ||||||||||||
